Job summary

The National Park Service (DOI) seeks an Engineering Equipment Operator in Brooklyn, NY. The role involves operating heavy gasoline or diesel-powered equipment (road graders, tractors with bulldozers, excavators) on challenging terrain, to prepare and finish project sites for park infrastructure and maintenance.

Responsibilities include transporting equipment, performing pre-trip safety checks, and adhering to strict safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Appointment subject to background investigation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class B CDL with no Air Brake Restriction.
• Pre-employment and random alcohol and drug testing are required.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy gasoline or diesel-powered engineering equipment such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer excavators, etc.
• Operates equipment on mountainous or steep terrain to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on projects.
• Operates a boom for placing pipe, hydrants, and other large objects in utility and road maintenance operations throughout the park unit.
• Operates road graders to grade and ditch and plow or clear debris and brush
• Loads, secures, and drives equipment to and from project sites.
• Performs pre-trip safety inspections on engineering equipment.
