Job summary

Burton Excavation is seeking an experienced equipment operator to work on excavation sites in Ogden, UT. You will operate excavators, loaders, backhoes, and related machinery, performing trenching, grading, and utility work with attention to safety and accuracy.

The role involves daily inspections, coordination with foremen, and reading plans/gradess. CDL is a plus, OSHA 10 preferred, and opportunities for overtime are available.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of proven heavy equipment operation experience in excavation or construction.
• Strong safety practices around utilities and tight sites.
• Ability to read plans and grade stakes; operate laser/GPS guidance when applicable.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate excavators, loaders, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, and other equipment
• Perform precise digging/trenching to specs, fine grading, material handling, and utility work
• Conduct daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report issues
• Work closely with foreman, spotters, and crew to maintain safety and productivity
• Read grade stakes, blueprints, and use laser/GPS guidance when applicable
• Load/unload materials, assist with hand work as needed
• Adhere to all safety standards and site protocols

Qualifications

• 2+ years proven experience operating heavy equipment in excavation/construction
• Strong understanding of safe operating practices around utilities and tight sites
• Ability to read plans, stakes, and use laser levels
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work in all weather
• Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus
• OSHA 10 and heavy equipment certifications preferred
