Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Trainee to service, diagnose and repair light, medium and heavy duty equipment. This position becomes subject to federally mandated testing upon obtaining a CDL in the first year; a pre-employment test is required for a related pay increase.

Duties include daily inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs, welding, and record-keeping. You may travel to borough villages and could work non-traditional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED; some combination of 12 years education and related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Daily inspections, fueling, fluid checks, lighting, tires, startup and safety inspections; schedule and perform routine preventive maintenance.
• Perform minor and major repairs including electrical, drive train, suspension, engine, heating, hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot drivability issues and repair equipment; use diagnostic tools and hand tools; weld and fabricate as needed.
• Maintain records, work orders, quotes, timesheets, and reports; attend safety meetings and training.
• Travel to North Slope Borough villages; may require evenings, holidays, weekends, or on-call status.
