Job summary

Southern Tire Mart in Tucson, AZ is seeking a diesel mechanic to diagnose and repair trucks and trailers, including brakes, steering, HVAC, drivetrains, and electrical systems. You’ll perform PM inspections, tire services, and operate diagnostic tools while maintaining thorough service records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade school certification is a plus.
• Prior experience as a diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or heavy truck mechanic is preferred.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and problem-solving ability required.
• Must be able to lift/move tires and equipment (30–250 lbs).
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record; pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers, including brakes, steering & suspension, HVAC, drivetrains, electrical systems, and PM inspections.
• Conduct fleet inspections and perform scheduled maintenance.
• Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues.
• Perform tire-related services (mounting, balancing, repairing).
• Use and maintain TPMS and maintain detailed records of work performed.
• Adhere to safety guidelines, company policies, and DOT regulations; respond to roadside service calls as needed.
• Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers, including:

  • Brakes

  • Steering & Suspension

  • HVAC systems

  • Drivetrains

  • Electrical systems

  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspections

• Conduct fleet inspections and perform scheduled maintenance.

• Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues accurately.

• Perform tire-related services as needed (mounting, balancing, repairing).

• Use and maintain Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).

• Maintain detailed records of work performed.

• Adhere to all safety guidelines, company policies, and DOT regulations.

• Respond to roadside service calls using a company service truck when required.

• Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.

• Complete other duties as assigned.
