Job summary

Southern Tire Mart is seeking a skilled diesel mechanic to diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers across our national fleet. You will handle brakes, HVAC, drivetrains, electrical systems, and PM inspections, with roadside support when needed.

This role requires lifting heavy tires, operating diagnostic tools, maintaining records, and following DOT safety rules. We offer competitive hourly pay based on experience, plus benefits and career growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (trade school certification a plus).
• Prior experience as a diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or heavy truck mechanic preferred.
• Must be able to lift/move tires and equipment (30–250 lbs., with or without mechanical aids).
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Willingness to work in varying conditions (weather, noise, physical demands).
• Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair brakes, HVAC, drivetrains, and electrical systems on semi-trucks and trailers.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and fleet maintenance.
• Operate diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues accurately.
• Perform tire mounting, balancing, and other tire-related services.
• Maintain TPMS and detailed service records.
• Follow safety guidelines, company policies, and DOT regulations.
• Respond to roadside service calls with a company service truck.
• Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Job description

Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers, including:

Brakes

HVAC systems

Drivetrains

Electrical systems

Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspections

Conduct fleet inspections and perform scheduled maintenance.

Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues accurately.

Perform tire-related services as needed (mounting, balancing, repairing).

Use and maintain Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).

Maintain detailed records of work performed.

Adhere to all safety guidelines, company policies, and DOT regulations.

Respond to roadside service calls using a company service truck when required.

Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.

Complete other duties as assigned.
