Job summary

Thompson Machinery in Nashville, TN is seeking a Field Service Technician for Caterpillar diesel-powered construction equipment. You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance across customer sites and field service shops, often working from a company truck.

The role requires five years of equipment diagnostics experience, a high school diploma, and a valid driver’s license with a DOT medical card.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 5+ years’ experience with equipment diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting on construction equipment.
• Candidates with limited equipment experience, but with strong engine experience will be considered.
• Field Service Technician training and/or equipment service and maintenance training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of Caterpillar diesel powered construction equipment.
• Work independently from a company-provided field service truck at customer locations and service shops.
• Read and interpret manuals, safety guides, and schematics; use test equipment for troubleshooting.
• Travel within an assigned region; occasional overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed (up to 25% overnight).
• Maintain safety, customer satisfaction, and quality repair commitments.
