Job summary

Primoris Heavy Civil seeks an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to run excavators, bulldozers, graders, and more on our Laredo projects. You will perform pre-op checks, maintain equipment, read blueprints, and ensure safety compliance in a fast-paced civil construction setting.

The role requires 3–5 years of field experience, a valid license, and the ability to pass drug/background checks. Weekend work and extended hours may be required per project needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable experience operating multiple types of heavy civil construction equipment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
• Proven ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong understanding of construction site safety regulations and best practices.
• Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and other construction plans.
• Physical ability to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions, including sitting for extended periods, climbing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, as project demands require.
• Reliable transportation to and from job sites in the Laredo, TX area.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, graders, loaders, rollers, and compactors, in a safe and productive manner.
• Perform pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on equipment, including fueling, lubricating, and cleaning, and report any mechanical issues or defects immediately.
• Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and other construction documents to ensure accurate excavation, grading, and material placement.
• Excavate, backfill, level, and spread materials according to project specifications and established grades.
• Load and unload materials from trucks and other vehicles.
• Work collaboratively with ground crew, supervisors, and other team members to ensure efficient project workflow and adherence to safety protocols.
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment.
• Assist with other general labor duties as needed when not operating equipment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers regarding project progress, potential hazards, and equipment status.
