Job summary

Scot Forge is seeking a Heat Treat Operator for the Spring Grove, IL facility. You will program furnace cycles, calibrate equipment, and manage load orientation for heat treating and quenching processes.

We offer weekly pay, ESOP ownership, profit-sharing, and comprehensive benefits. The role requires good manual dexterity, the ability to lift 65 lbs, and the ability to work in extreme temperatures on a 2nd shift schedule (5 pm–5 am).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Forklift experience preferred
• Manufacturing experience preferred
• Basic shop math for quench times and cycle calculations
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and lift up to 65 lbs

Responsibilities

• Program and monitor furnace cycles and record readings
• Calibrate equipment and prepare heat treat furnace
• Load/unload material into quench tank per guidelines
• Load/unload materials into furnaces per load sheets
• Read shop orders and identify next operation
• Read basic blueprints and understand weights and sizes
• Promote a safe and healthy work environment
• Pass heat treat exam within 12 months and become certified hardness tester

We perform a hair follicle pre-employment drug screen test, lift test up to 65 lbs and background check.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Required or equivalent
• Forklift experience (preferred)
• Manufacturing experience (preferred)
• Basic shop math - calculation of quench times based on part sizes, cycle times, etc.
• Ability to work in temperatures up to 100 degrees in Summer and below 30 degrees in Winter
• Ability to perform frequent lifting of 65 lbs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Program and monitor furnace cycles via temperature controllers, adjustments and record readings.
• Properly calibrate all equipment.
• Prepare heat treat furnace, ensure orientation of load and remove shims.
• Load and unload material into quench tank according to both established and unestablished guidelines and practices.
• Load and unload materials into furnaces according to established load sheet instructions keeping in mind product support and furnace uniformity.
• Evaluate and straighten tempered parts as required in accordance with established practices.
• Perform Brinell testing operations and record results in accordance with established specifications.
• Read and understand shop order routing and be able to identify the next operation and prepare and move the forgings to the appropriate department location for the next operation.
• Read and understand basic blueprints (weights, product sizes locations, hardness, test location)
• Work in cooperation with all fellow employee owners to sustain a strong team atmosphere.
• Required to pass written and practical Heat Treat Examination within 12 months.
• Required to become a certified hardness tester (use, calibrate and test proper equipment).
• Actively participate to promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs and procedures for the reduction and elimination of industrial accidents. #1875

Helpful experience includes strong time and measurement /tape measure aptitude or metal fabrication.
