Job summary

Ball State University is seeking a Heat Plant Operator to join the Heat Plant Operations team on campus. The role involves operating natural gas-fired boilers, maintaining steam distribution, and ensuring compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations. The position is full-time, on campus, with a 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

shift Tuesday through Saturday. Candidates must have authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Apprenticeship as Stationary Engineer or 6+ years boiler plant experience preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend policies and procedures for safety and materials instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor natural gas fired boilers and related equipment.
• Record meter readings and maintain logs; follow EPA/OSHA regulations.
• Perform maintenance on steam distribution equipment and water treatment systems.
• Replace and repair boiler furnace refractory and heating plant instrumentation.
• Perform pipe fitting, welding, electrical, and insulation tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas and vehicles.
• Learn and apply current environmental concerns and chemicals.
