Ball State University invites applications for the Heat Plant Group Leader on our campus in Muncie, IN. The role oversees inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of heat plant equipment with emphasis on EPA/OSHA compliance.

Responsibilities include training staff, recording data, and coordinating work orders. The ideal candidate has supervisory experience, strong knowledge of water chemistry testing, and the ability to manage complex tasks in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; apprenticeship or ≥6 years in boiler/plant ops preferred.
• Must read and follow safety, university policies, and procedures; valid driver's license.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and operate heating plant equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

• Direct and lead inspection, maintenance, repair, replacement, and operation of heat plant equipment.
• Test water samples and adjust chemicals based on results.
• Train heat plant staff in operation, maintenance, and repair procedures.
• Inspect tunnels and equipment for condition and recommend maintenance.
• Act for supervisor when assigned and evaluate staff performance.
