Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. You will patrol facilities, respond to emergencies, control access, and document incidents in alignment with hospital policies.

Rotating shifts including weekends, with a strong focus on de-escalation, professional communication, and teamwork to support clinical staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• De-escalation/crisis intervention training must be completed within 90 days of start.
• Valid driver’s license required for all hires after April 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible security presence through facility patrols and monitoring for safety hazards and security concerns.
• Respond to emergencies using de-escalation techniques and support clinical teams as needed.
• Control facility access and operate security equipment to ensure a safe environment.
• Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff while enforcing safety policies.
• Complete incident documentation and communicate effectively via radio systems.
