Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a dedicated security officer for the 10:00pm–6:30am shift at Towson. You will patrol facilities, assist patients and staff, control access, respond to emergencies, and document incidents to maintain a safe environment.

• Ability to document incidents accurately with objective information.
• Ability to follow post orders and operate within established procedures.
• Remain calm and professional in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a visible security presence and conducts interior and exterior patrols to identify hazards and report deficiencies.
• Responds rapidly to emergencies and crisis situations following directives and de-escalation techniques.
• Assists clinical teams during high-risk patient encounters while preserving dignity and safety.
• Enforces safety and security policies and documents violations for escalation to Security leadership.
• Operates access control points and screening equipment to monitor restricted areas and access attempts.
• Provides exceptional customer service and escorts or directs patients, visitors, and staff as needed.
• Communicates status updates via radios and coordinates assistance per chain of command.
• Documents incidents accurately for reports, logs, and safety entries.
• Assists with morgue handling and proper logging of placements and releases where applicable.
• Ensures security systems and alarms are functioning and reports malfunctions promptly.
• Adheres to post orders and maintains professional conduct at assigned posts.
