Job summary

Farnsworth Group, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager - Healthcare to lead the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical systems for hospitals, clinics, and complex facilities.

This role blends technical leadership, project management, and people management across the healthcare portfolio. Responsibilities include guiding multi-disciplinary teams, overseeing HVAC and central plant design, and ensuring compliance with IMC, NFPA, and ASHRAE standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Typically 12–15+ years of progressive experience in building mechanical design, with significant healthcare project experience.
• Experience as mechanical lead and/or project manager on multi-disciplinary healthcare projects.
• Solid knowledge of mechanical and healthcare codes and standards (IMC, IBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, FGI) and application to hospitals and outpatient facilities.
• Proficiency with HVAC load calculations, central plant design, and integration with BAS/controls.
• Proficiency with Revit and BIM coordination; Navisworks familiarity preferred.
• Ability to lead and mentor technical staff and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills for client meetings and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team on healthcare projects from pursuit through construction closeout.
• Serve as mechanical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Support projects primarily in Illinois and the greater St. Louis region with travel across the Midwest.
• Oversee and perform the design of mechanical systems for healthcare facilities (HVAC, central plant, hydronic, medical gas where applicable).
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (IMC, IBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, FGI).
• Provide technical review and quality control of calculations and drawings.
• Guide system-level decision-making with clients and stakeholders.
• Lead and/or support project management tasks (planning, staffing, budgets, risk).
• Develop relationships with healthcare clients and regulators; represent the firm in meetings.
