Atrium Health is seeking a Financial Advocate to help patients understand and estimate their financial responsibility before services. You will explain deductibles and copays, request upfront payments, and arrange payment plans as needed.

The role involves assisting uninsured patients with eligibility programs and coordinating with Medicaid and charity care resources, while staying compliant with HIPAA and EMTALA regulations.

Qualifications

• Clear and proactive communication with management about customer service issues and process improvements.
• Ability to articulate HIPAA and EMTALA requirements in patient interactions.
• Solid knowledge of how different insurances operate related to denials and appeals processes.
• Basic medical coding knowledge.
• Understanding of insurance billing and denials.
• Ability to document in patients’ accounts using scripted notes and clear writing.

Responsabilités

• Calculates and provides patients with personalized estimates of their financial responsibility based on their insurance coverage prior to service.
• Explains deductibles, coinsurance, copayments and out-of-pocket costs clearly and accurately.
• Requests upfront payment toward self-pay amounts and establishes payment plans as applicable.
• Interviews uninsured patients to assess financial needs and coordinates with programs for coverage.
• Initiates and supports Medicaid and other program applications in coordination with social workers or vendors.
• Keeps up-to-date with government funding regulations (Medicare/Medicaid) and internal charity care policies.
• Collaborates with peers across settings to assist uninsured patients facing costs.
