Job summary

The International Center at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York provides educational programming for newly arrived immigrants and refugees to improve English proficiency and communication skills. Working in the Bridge to Healthcare Program, the instructor will develop, design, and deliver contextualized ESOL for healthcare classes for learners at our main Center.

Upon completion, participants may enroll in Home Health Aide training to prepare for the competency evaluation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education, ESOL or related field; Masters preferred.
• Experience working with multi-level adult ESOL learners in various contexts and familiarity with pedagogical approaches to second language acquisition.
• Experience with digital instruction including digital skills, remote and hybrid learning platforms, and knowledge of online resources.
• Experience with BEST Plus 3.0 preferred
• Previous experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Experience with community outreach a plus.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum Development and Instruction: design and deliver nine-week contextualized healthcare and ESOL courses focused on English needed to work as a Home Health Attendant; align curricula to HHA training and competency exam.
• Manage and support students: hold weekly office hours; assess language proficiency; track data; provide ongoing support; one-on-one as needed.
• Training and staff development: participate in professional development and meetings.
• Monitoring and evaluation: track attendance, learner feedback, surveys, and reports for funders.
• Additional support: assist with registration, testing, scheduling, portfolios; substitute as needed.
