Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Bond & Specialty Insurance Claims team in Hartford. The role focuses on complex claims, providing legal guidance to underwriting and claim staff, and shaping litigation strategy to optimize outcomes.

Ideal candidates bring strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with experience managing outside counsel and coordinating with underwriting on significant exposures in healthcare and professional

Qualifications

• Five or more years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Juris Doctorate Degree required.
• Licensed, registered or authorized to practice law in the jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims of varying severity with supervision.
• Prepare and present reports reflecting loss development, exposure, reserves, and strategies.
• Manage outside counsel with litigation plans and budgets.
• Communicate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Develop recovery opportunities and coordinate with Recovery Management and Claim teams.
• Travel to mediations, settlements, conferences, and depositions.
• Draft coverage opinions with case law for policy interpretation.
• Negotiate settlements and review releases and confidentiality provisions.
• Support underwriting with market insights and client-facing materials.
