Job summary

OpenAI is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to own end-to-end deployments of production AI systems in healthcare, including payers, providers, health systems, and healthcare tech companies. You will lead technical discovery, architecture, implementation, evaluation, productionization, and handoff, translating complex workflows into measurable outcomes.

You will collaborate with customer teams and OpenAI partners to deliver solutions, ensure security and regulatory compliance, and drive adoption

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering or ML/AI deployment experience.
• Hands-on responsibility for discovery, architecture, implementation, evaluation, deployment, and handoff.
• Experience with healthcare workflows and interoperability standards.
• Exposure to EHR systems and interoperability tech like HL7/FHIR.
• Experience with payer/provider workflows is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical solution end-to-end from discovery through deployment and handoff.
• Collaborate with customer engineers, operators, and domain experts to translate workflows into technical requirements.
• Design and implement production AI applications integrated with customer infrastructure and data sources.
• Build safeguards for PHI, HIPAA, privacy, security, and governance requirements.
• Define evaluations, validation evidence, and launch criteria aligned with customer acceptance.
• Use evaluation results and feedback to improve system reliability and performance.
