Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support RNs in daily patient care, including bathing, feeding, and mobility, while accurately recording vital signs and intake/output in the EMR. The role involves participating in admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining infection prevention standards.

The position requires basic computer skills, strong communication, and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding and ambulation; documents vital signs and inputs/outputs in EMR.
• Participates in admission, transfer and discharge processes; ensures patient call light is within reach and responds promptly.
• Performs purposeful rounding; communicates observations and needs to RN; assists with patient positioning and transferring.
• Cares for patient nutritional needs; assists with tray setup and diet selection; maintains skin integrity and uses TED hose or compression devices as directed.
• Collects specimens and performs point-of-care testing; may remove IVs or assist with post mortem care as required.
• Maintains infection prevention practices; adheres to sterile/aseptic procedures and proper disposal of contaminated materials.
• Coordinates tests and treatments across departments; maintains knowledge of EHR and scheduling; processes daily patient charges as required.
• Facilitates communications across the unit; screens calls and troubleshoots equipment; coordinates repairs as needed.
• Compiles admission/transfer/discharge documentation and certifies accuracy of patient demographics and registration.
• Establishes positive customer relations; responds to requests quickly and maintains professional phone etiquette.
• Must provide age-appropriate care; understands growth and development across the life span; assesses data to determine patient needs per department policies.
