Job description

Position Summary
The Health Unit Coordinator provides non-clinical support for the patient care area under the guidance and direction of the Nursing Staff leadership.


Core Job Duties
• Provides care to patients in an organized and systematic manner according to institutional policy in keeping with patient safety principles
• Performs all clerical functions. Exhibits good organizational, time management and teamwork skills, which contribute to the management and efficient operation of the unit
• Serves as the main focus for communication in the nursing station regarding all unit patient care activities to ensure efficient coordination of the unit activities
• Demonstrates the ability and competency to respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations
• Answers the telephone, name & department, directs all calls appropriately, takes an accurate message and delivers to the appropriate individual
• Communicates any problems, concerns or issues promptly to the nurse


Minimum Requirements
• BLS Certification through the American Heart Assoc
• Office/Clerical experience in a medical setting
• Patient care experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology, as well as good computer proficiency, with excellent customer service and communication skills
• Detail oriented and possesses multi-tasking skills
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull
