Job description

Summary

This position is in the Surgery/Specialty Clinics at Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. The primary purpose of this position is to support clinical day-to-day operations related to technical health care procedures under the supervision of the Surgery/Specialty LPNs, Registered Nurses, and/or Clinicians as competency is demonstrated and documented.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 include:

  • Specialized Experience: Positions in this series support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Experience must demonstrate application of relevant knowledge, methods, and techniques.
  • GS-06 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05, including tasks such as using a computer for administrative duties, observing patients and reporting changes, documenting records, screening patients, setting up examination rooms, collecting specimens, performing EKGs, and blood glucose testing.
  • Education Substitution: Six months of graduate education in a related field or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience: Specialty Clinic Experience. A transcript must be submitted if qualifications are based on education. Volunteer work is credited as experience.

Duties
  • This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT.
  • The initial referral cut-off date is June 30, 2025, with applications referred on an as-needed basis.
  • The posting remains open until no longer needed, but no later than September 12, 2025.

  • Responsibilities include answering calls, administrative duties, performing treatment procedures, de-escalating patients, performing ECGs, reporting post-void residuals, observing patients, interviewing and screening patients, performing point-of-care testing, assisting with clinic flow, setting up procedures, and other duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:30 pm (Compressed 9-hour tour).
  • Physical requirements include walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects, with above-average dexterity. Employees must maintain PMDB certification as per facility policy.
