Job summary

UCSF Health seeks a Senior Security Guard, known as Health Security Ambassador (HSA), to safeguard patients, staff, visitors and facilities across UCSF Medical Center. You will conduct proactive patrols, control access, monitor safety, and respond to incidents, while engaging with the public in a professional, reassuring manner.

The role requires crisis de-escalation skills, strong communication, and the ability to work varied shifts.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is required.
Complete Crisis Prevention/De-escalation training within 6 months of hire.
1+ years in customer service, security, public safety, law enforcement, or related field.
Knowledge of standard security protocols and emergency response procedures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations, including those with health needs.
Basic computer skills (incident reporting, email, access control systems).
Valid California Guard Card issued by BSIS.
Valid California Driver’s License (CDL).
Ability to work varied shifts and days of the week.

Responsibilities

Patrol UCSF facilities to protect patients, staff, visitors, and assets.
Control access and monitor safety surveillance.
Respond promptly to incidents and assist in crisis situations.
Physically intervene when required and apply approved restraint techniques per policy.
