About the Company:
MSA North America is a world leader in producing producing metallic components. Our Auburn facility is essential for growth in North America, supporting manufacturing operations such as press stamping, CNC/VMC machining, welding/brazing, and electroplating. Finished products are vital to the electrification and automotive industries.

Position Overview:

This salaried position reports to the CEO and is responsible for leading and managing all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs. This includes ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, Maine DEP, and other relevant regulations. The role emphasizes process safety, compliance, training, emergency response, and continuous improvement in safety culture. This position requires an individual that is a true team player, eager and willing to support others, cross-functional knowledgeable, works fast paced, and can manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance & Regulatory

  • Ensure site compliance with all regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, Maine DEP).
  • Maintain and renew all HSE-related permits and filings (e.g., Tier II, TRI Form R, Radiation, Wastewater).
  • Submit regulatory reports (e.g., OSHA 300, TIER II, TRI, Wastewater Reports).

Program & Policy Management

  • Develop, implement, and manage all written HSE programs (e.g., LOTO, Hot Work, Fall Protection, HAZCOM).
  • Own site-wide environmental programs (e.g., storm water, wastewater, hazardous/universal waste).
  • Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical approvals, and inspection programs.
  • Lead safety committee and implement ergonomic improvements.
  • Participate in the Management of Change (MOC) process and emergency response planning.

Incident & Injury Management

  • Lead incident investigations and corrective action tracking.
  • Manage workers compensation, injury treatment, and return-to-work programs.

Training & Communication

  • Conduct and track all HSE-related training (e.g., LOTO, JHA, NFPA 70E, RCRA, DOT, Confined Space).
  • Oversee new hire HSE orientation and refresher courses.
  • Communicate HSE information internally and externally (including agency contact).

Leadership & Hands-On Engagement

  • Lead HSE Specialist and onsite nurse.
  • Lead and participate in facility emergency response team.
  • Conduct site audits and monitor corrective actions.
  • Manage HSE databases and maintain documentation.
  • Develop and maintain external agency relationships.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BS/BA in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Engineering/Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing HSE compliance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer proficiency (e.g., MS Office).
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to be flexible and work closely with all facets of the organization is required.

Preferred:

  • Certifications: CSP, ASP, CEP, Six Sigma Greenbelt, CPR/AED, Hazmat Ops/Tech.
  • Experience: Emergency response, hazardous waste, wastewater permits.
  • Certified trainer in safety topics.
  • Familiarity with ISO, VPP standards, and ergonomic assessments.
