Job summary

Chapa-De Indian Health is seeking a Health Information Technician to maintain accurate patient health records in both electronic and paper formats. You will index information, ensure completeness, and support high-quality patient care.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, familiarity with medical terminology, and strong attention to detail and confidentiality. Experience with EHRs and Microsoft Office is preferred.

Qualifications

  • RHIT certification or prior health IT experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process, index, and maintain patient health information in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Ensure records are complete, accurate, and compliant with regulations.
  • Retrieve records for providers, appointments, and other departments as needed.
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA requirements.
  • Collaborate with Health Information and other teams to keep records up to date.

Job Description

Join Chapa-De’s Health Information team as a Health Information Technician, where you’ll help maintain accurate and confidential patient health records. You’ll work with electronic and paper medical information, ensuring records are properly processed, organized, and available to support high-quality patient care.

Hourly Pay: $25.00-$27.00

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

What You'll Do:

  • Process, scan, and accurately index patient health information into the electronic health record (EHR) using appropriate folders and naming conventions.

  • Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Retrieve and process patient health records for providers, appointments, pharmacy, auditing, and other department needs.
  • Help protect the privacy and confidentiality of patient health information while following HIPAA and applicable regulations.
  • Work closely with Health Information and other departments to maintain accurate, timely patient records.
Experience and Skills

What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Comfortable using computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with the ability to learn new technology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Preferred: RHIT certification, eClinicalWorks/EHR experience, or previous healthcare experience.
