Job summary

Affinia Healthcare is seeking a Health Information Technician to maintain and secure medical records in an electronic system, ensuring timely and accurate availability. The role supports HIPAA compliance and ROI requests, requiring strong communication and data management skills.

Two years of HIM experience and customer service background are required; EHR experience is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; bilingual abilities are a plus.

Qualifications

• Two years experience in Health Information Management required.
• Two years customer service experience required.
• One year Electronic Health Record experience preferred.
• Bilingual experience a plus.
• High School diploma or equivalent required; healthcare coursework helpful.

Responsibilities

• Utilize multiple electronic health care systems to manage health information.
• Provide authorized individuals with timely access to patient information without compromising the security of patient records.
• Accepts and processes authorizations for patient medical information according to HIPAA regulations.
• Accepts subpoenas and other legal documents and processes according to HIPAA and organization policies.
• Maintains and operates a variety of health record indexes and storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store and analyze information.
• Ensure all health information is properly scanned.
• Faxes medical information to other medical facilities for continuing care.
• Answers and/or addresses requests for information, i.e., immunization records, physical forms, etc.
• Creates and maintains the Monthly Medical Record Invoice Report.
• Communicates with external contacts to obtain medical records for clinic and ancillary services.
• Purges medical records and file maintenance in offsite storage facility's software.
• Assists with audits and research
• Performs other duties as assigned.
