Job summary

Shriners Hospitals for Children is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance of patient records. You will maintain medical records, facilitate information flow, and uphold data integrity across our care network.

Key responsibilities include HIPAA-compliant release of information, quality checks on records, EMR scanning and timely processing, and collaboration with physicians to address deficiencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Follows Release of Information procedures per SHC policies and HIPAA/HITECH.
• Verifies HIPAA-compliant authorizations and releases patient information as needed.
• Performs quality checks on records before printing, copying, faxing or uploading.
• Scans/imports requests for EMR accessibility and timely processing.
• Handles information requests from paper, microfiche, and offsite records.
• Tracks deficiencies with physicians to ensure complete medical records and generates reports.
• Answers department calls and routes inquiries appropriately.
• Resolves customer issues and follows up to ensure satisfactory outcomes.
