Job summary

Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia is seeking an Health Information Management Specialist to ensure accurate, complete, and timely processing of patient health information in accordance with SHC policies and state and federal regulations.

This role supports quality patient care by providing readily accessible and reliable health records. **Key Responsibilities*** Ensures appropriate Release of Information procedures are followed as required by SHC policies, and state/federal confidentiality regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.* Ensures authorizations for release of health information are HIPAA compliant and releases patient information in accordance with minimum necessary guidelines.* Accurately preps, validate and scan paper medical record documents into the EMR within 48 hours of discharge or patient visit.* Monitors, assists, and follows up with physicians and other hospital staff in completion of deficiencies in the medical record, compiles, verifies data and prepares reports regarding patient related statistics and distributes/posts data.* Assists in answering department calls and routes to appropriate area.* Responding to customer queries in a timely and accurate way, via phone, email, or fax.**Required Qualifications*** High School Diploma or GED* One year healthcare experience in medical records processing operation, physician office, business office and/or customer service**Preferred Qualifications*** Registered Health Information Technician(RHIT) through AHIMA* Registered Health Information Administrator(RHIA)Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
