Job summary

Shriners Children's is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to ensure accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of patient health information and maintain regulatory compliance.

The role involves maintaining medical records, facilitating information flow, and upholding data integrity across SHC sites. It requires HIPAA awareness, attention to detail, and collaboration with clinicians and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of customer service experience required.
• Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's in Health Information Management.
• Preferred: 1 year healthcare experience in medical records processing.

Responsibilities

• Ensure release of information procedures follow SHC policies and HIPAA/HITECH regulations.
• Ensure authorizations for release of health information are HIPAA compliant.
• Perform quality checks on records before printing, faxing, or uploading.
• Scan/import requests for accessibility in the EMR system.
• Process information requests from paper records, microfiche, or electronic storage.
• Monitor and assist physicians/staff to complete deficiencies in medical records; compile data and prepare reports.
• Answer department calls and route to appropriate area.
• Handle complaints, provide solutions, and follow up with customers.
