Job summary

Covenant Retirement Communities is seeking a Health Information Coordinator to supervise and coordinate the Health Information department in accordance with policies, state and federal guidelines. Responsibilities include managing health records, audits, and liaison with physicians for discharge summaries.

The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, understanding of HIPAA, and experience with health information processes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of health information or related experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA laws.
• Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and understand medical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare health records and rooms for new admissions per policies.
• Maintain a permanent register of resident admissions and census.
• Audit records for timeliness and completeness; inform staff of deficiencies.
• Coordinate with physicians for discharge summaries and other records.
• Assemble contents of closed records until full electronic record is obtained.
• Maintain confidentiality and periodic statistical reports on resident information.
• Schedule appointments and arrange transportation for residents as needed.
• Process lab requisitions and notify lab for draws; relay results.
• Notify physicians of required visits and guide documentation during visits.
• Serve on the Quality Assurance Committee and participate in in-services.
