Position Summary

The Health & Safety Specialist administers the plant safety program aimed at reducing or eliminating industrial injuries, illnesses, or losses from equipment or property damage. This role promotes compliance with federal and state safety laws and regulations, and supports the plant and corporate safety initiatives. The position also enhances the company's positive safety and health image in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Monitor facilities and processes to adhere to MSHA guidelines and prevent industrial accidents.
  • Evaluate and improve the safety program to achieve zero-harm goals.
  • Conduct audits and walks to ensure safety procedures are followed rigorously.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with safety procedures in collaboration with supervisors and personnel.
  • Coordinate employee safety orientations and training sessions, maintaining records accordingly.
  • Maintain incident databases and safety records, conducting monthly audits.
  • Ensure all safety binders and SDSs are current and properly stored.
  • Lead safety training and coordinate safety inspections and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Serve as liaison with safety regulatory agencies and facilitate safety committees.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, or near misses thoroughly.
  • Recommend safety improvements and lead safety system implementations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a 4-year bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, safety management, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in mining, industrial environment, or safety-related field.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and develop effective presentations.
  • Experience with safety databases and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to promote health programs and maintain professional proficiency.
