Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation is seeking a Head Start Teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans for children aged 3–5, fostering social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth in collaboration with the Education Coordinator and MRDC team.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, and experience in inclusive, team-based settings.

Responsibilities

• Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool children, following guidance from Education Coordinator and leaders.
• Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards in daily activities.
• Refer children suspected of special needs or challenging behavior to appropriate staff.
• Implement behavior plans and IEPs with team, families, schools, and mental health professionals; emphasize least restrictive environment.
• Guide daily activities, field trips, and arrange equipment and materials in the classroom.
• Cooperate with staff to maintain smooth operation of the center and adjust to meet children’s needs.
• Maintain ongoing portfolio assessment for each child with weekly observations and work samples.
• Foster a positive learning atmosphere encouraging creativity, curiosity, and exploration.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Supervise children at all times and apply positive behavior management strategies.
• Attend trainings, workshops, and staff meetings to enhance professional skills.
• Ensure files are complete, accurate, and confidential.
• Think, concentrate, and interact positively with others.
• Arrive punctually and work under deadlines.
• Perform related duties as assigned by Site Supervisor, Director, or Deputy Director.
