Job summary

Save the Children is seeking a Head Start Teacher to lead preschool instruction in a Center setting in Louisiana. You will develop individual and group plans to support social-emotional, physical and cognitive growth, while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in child development or early childhood education or related degree with coursework related to early childhood education; preschool teaching experience.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams to provide high-quality services to children and families.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; good problem solving and time management.
• Ability to follow established directions and take initiative.
• Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start program and its purpose.
• Ability to relate to children and maintain confidentiality.
• Participation in professional development including basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification as required by state licensing and HSPPS.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized and group lesson plans to promote readiness for school.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
• Build relationships with children, families and staff.
• Maintain records in paper and online systems; protect confidentiality.
• Conduct observations, assessments and screenings; maintain child portfolios.
• Supervise and mentor assistants and volunteers as needed.
• Ensure safety and active supervision during all activities; manage playground safety.
• Collaborate with Center Director/Manager to align with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
