Job summary

Community Action Organization seeks a compassionate Substitute Teacher for our Head Start program. You will step into classrooms as needed, building caring relationships with children aged 0–5 and delivering age-appropriate learning activities.

Requirements include a CDA or ECE certificate, at least one year of teaching experience in a child care setting, and the ability to pass background checks and TB testing. A valid Oregon driver’s license or reliable transportation is required.

Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of a Child Development Associate Credential (Preschool or Infant/Toddler) or an Early Childhood Education Certificate.
• Experience: Minimum of one year experience teaching in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program for ages 0-5; less experience may be accepted with higher education.
• Background checks and Oregon Central Background Registry checks required before hire.
• Fit for Duty and TB Testing completion prior to start date.
• Valid Oregon driver's license or access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, healthy, orderly, and nurturing classroom environment.
• Help set up environments (indoor/outdoor) for daily activities.
• Follow lesson plans or collaborate with teaching team to develop plans when not available.
• Follow primary care routines for children ages 0–3 years.
• Observe and record behaviors to identify strengths and areas for growth.
• Promote parental involvement in the classroom.
• Assist with meal service as needed.
