Job summary

Community Action Organization is seeking a Substitute Teacher for its Head Start program in Oregon. The role involves stepping into classrooms as needed, building strong relationships with children, and delivering age-appropriate learning experiences to support growth.

The position requires a CDA or ECE credential (or similar) with Oregon Registry steps, background checks, and reliable transportation. Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Education requirements include a CDA or ECE certificate to Step 8+ on the Oregon Registry.
• One year of teaching in a Certified Child Care Center or equivalent for ages 0-5.
• Background checks and TB testing required before hire.
• Valid Oregon driver's license or reliable transportation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing classroom environment with staff.
• Set up indoor/outdoor learning environments for daily activities.
• Use or develop lesson plans in collaboration with teachers.
• Follow care routines for children aged 0-3 years.
• Observe and record child behaviors to identify growth areas.
• Promote parental involvement in the classroom.
• Assist with meal service as needed.
