Job summary

Community Action seeks a Substitute Teacher for its Head Start program. You will fill in classrooms, build caring relationships with young children, and lead age‑appropriate learning activities while collaborating with staff.

The role requires a CDA/ECE credential and one year of related experience, plus background checks and a valid Oregon driver’s license. Competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• CDA credential (Preschool or Infant/Toddler) or ECE certificate, or equivalent to Step 8+ on Oregon Registry.
• One year teaching in a certified child care center or comparable setting for ages 0‑5.
• Must pass Oregon background checks and TB/Fit for Duty before hire.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license or reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing classroom environment with functioning areas.
• Set up indoor/outdoor environments for daily activities.
• Use or adapt lesson plans in collaboration with the teaching team.
• Follow care routines for children aged 0‑3 years.
• Observe and record child behaviors to aid growth identification.
• Promote parental involvement in the classroom.
• Assist with meal service as needed.
