Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is seeking a Health & Nutrition Specialist to lead planning, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of health, oral health, mental health coordination, and nutrition services for children and families in Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

You will work collaboratively with education, family services, disabilities, and operations teams to ensure children are healthy, safe, nutritionally supported, and ready to learn, while maintaining program

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor health screenings, physicals, immunizations, vision, hearing, and dental exams for enrolled children.
• Track, analyze, and report child health data in program data systems.
• Develop individualized health care plans for children with chronic conditions.
• Ensure proper medication administration procedures, training, and compliance at all sites.
• Liaise with healthcare providers, local health departments, and community partners.
• Oversee CACFP compliance and Head Start nutrition standards, menu monitoring, and food safety.
• Collaborate with food service vendors to provide culturally responsive meals.
• Support accommodations for children with special dietary needs and medical nutrition therapy.
• Conduct classroom/site observations related to nutrition and healthy habits.
• Ensure confidentiality and support developmental screening in health services planning.
• Provide training on health and safety, infection control, food safety, and preventive care.
• Assist families in accessing medical homes and community health resources.
