You will collaborate with optometrists, educate patients on lens options, manage adjustments and repairs, and coach optical staff. The ideal candidate has strong optics knowledge, prior supervisory experience, ABO/NCLE certification or state

Role Description

The Head Optician is a full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX, responsible for leading optical operations and ensuring excellent patient experiences. This role oversees lens selection, fitting, and dispensing, supervises frame inventory, and maintains high standards for optical quality and accuracy. The Head Optician collaborates with optometrists to support prescriptions, educates patients on lens options and eyewear solutions, and manages adjustments, repairs, and follow-up services. Daily tasks include guiding optical staff, optimizing workflows, ensuring compliance with safety and quality protocols, and contributing to customer satisfaction and practice growth.

Qualifications

• Strong optics and optometry knowledge, with the ability to interpret prescriptions and recommend appropriate lenses and frames.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction and customer service, with a focus on clear communication and patient education.
• Experience supporting eye exams and working collaboratively with optometrists and clinical staff.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in an optical or eye care setting.
• Attention to detail, manual dexterity for fittings and adjustments, and proficiency with optical tools and equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; formal optician training, ABO/NCLE certification, or state licensure is preferred.
• Ability to work on-site full time in Houston, TX, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a professional, inclusive, and patient-centered approach.
