Job summary

Arch Insurance North America seeks an experienced leader to direct the Surety Underwriting Group. You will shape underwriting strategy, drive profitability, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet business objectives.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong leadership, and travel up to 35% across North America, with base salary in the upper-200k to mid-300k range plus incentives. Remote-friendly with office presence as needed.

Qualifications

• 15–20+ years of insurance underwriting experience including surety products.
• Experience leading high-performing cross-functional teams with varied levels.
• Talent development capabilities including mentoring, coaching and performance management.
• Ability to align strategy with day-to-day operations to achieve objectives.
• Willingness and ability to travel across North America for account and marketing visits.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and execute actions to maximize underwriting results and strengthen competitive positioning.
• Partner with stakeholders to achieve business unit goals and support profitable growth.
• Lead ongoing management of the group to achieve underwriting goals while optimizing resources.
• Evaluate underwriting performance, renewals, new business opportunities, and market trends.
• Represent the organization in the marketplace through engagement with customers, agents, and brokers.
• Ensure underwriting products, guidelines, and authority limits comply with regulatory requirements.
• Promote underwriting discipline and marketing execution to sustain growth.
