Job summary

Bankrate in the United States is seeking a Director of Risk & Controls to stand up enterprise‑grade risk and controls from scratch. This fully remote role reports to the COO and embeds the first line of defense within the business, partnering with Compliance and Legal to govern risk and scale governance as growth accelerates.

You will drive governance, risk assessments, policy library refresh, third‑party due diligence, and AI‑enabled processes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive risk, compliance, or control management experience.
• Financial services experience is required; mortgage/home loan experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to project-manage complex, cross-functional initiatives and drive them to completion.
• Proven track record using AI as a productivity tool.
• Working knowledge of first-line/second-line risk frameworks (three lines of defense).

Responsibilities

• Drive Bankrate’s monthly Risk & Compliance Committee: set the agenda, track follow-ups, and keep the exec team accountable.
• Run bi-weekly Risk & Compliance governance meetings, including agenda-setting and follow-up tracking.
• Respond to quarterly risk assessments and project-manage the resulting mitigation roadmap.
• Own project management across governance initiatives and ensure proper documentation.
• Use AI to design and stand up Bankrate’s first-line-of-defense program.
• Coordinate with CISO/IT Security and other stakeholders to refresh internal policy library.
• Validate and record adherence to ~60 internal policies.
• Manage certifications portfolio (SOC, EcoVadis, ISO, WCAG, etc.).
