Job summary

Sola Insurance is seeking a Head of Finance to own the financial engine, including operating model and monthly close, and to partner with the CEO on strategy and fundraising. You will build the insurance-focused finance function, align reporting, controls, and performance metrics, and scale the team as the business grows.

You will lead FP&A, GAAP reporting, and treasury activities, while ensuring rigor and speed in decision-making in a fast-growing startup environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive finance leadership experience (Head of Finance or equivalent).
• Direct insurance industry experience required (carrier/MGA/insurtech/broker).
• Hands-on in an early-stage company without a large supporting team.
• Clear communication with executives, boards, and non-finance stakeholders.
• Rigorous, structured financial decision-making balanced with speed.

Responsibilities

• Own financial engine of Sola: operating model, monthly close, and board materials.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash runway planning.
• Oversee core finance operations: payroll, banking, audits, tax and vendor management.
• Manage insurance-specific finance: premium and claims accounting.
• Build and scale the finance team, processes, and controls as the company grows.
• Prepare for fundraising with data room, diligence, and investor updates.
