Job summary

Bet Tzedek Legal Services seeks a Senior Director of Compliance to lead the organization’s compliance infrastructure and governance. The role reports to the President & CEO and collaborates across Finance, Legal, HR, IT, and other functions to ensure timely, risk-aware decision-making.

The position emphasizes building systems, documentation, and monitoring processes with an emphasis on audits, grants, and regulatory obligations across a hybrid/remote workplace in Southern California.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in California is required.
• 5–8 years of progressive experience in compliance, risk management, grants management, contracts, audit, nonprofit operations, or a related field.
• Experience interpreting complex contracts, grant requirements, regulations, policies, and obligations.
• Ability to build and maintain practical compliance infrastructure across departments.
• Experience with government contracts, public funding, or funder audits is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with cross-functional coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization’s compliance infrastructure, systems, trackers, and governance channels.
• Develop a risk governance framework and annual compliance work plan.
• Review grants, contracts, MOUs, RFPs and regulations to identify key obligations.
• Coordinate compliance matters across Finance, Institutional Giving, Legal Programs, HR, IT, and other departments.
• Monitor obligations, risks, corrective actions, and reporting calendars with escalation status.
• Support audits and prepare governance-ready briefings for leadership and the Board.
