Job summary

Summitbsa seeks an aquatics staff member to provide high-quality aquatic opportunities for guests while fostering a fun, safe environment and creating lasting memories.

The role includes leading staff, teaching merit badges to youth groups, handling paperwork, and ensuring program areas are well-maintained. Ideal candidates are 18+, hold lifeguard certification, and have prior leadership or training experience.

Qualifications

• Age 18 or older.
• Current lifeguard certification.
• 1+ year leading teams; Summit employment preferred.
• Willing to become registered Scouting America member.
• Previous training experience preferred.
• Able to use Microsoft Teams for work communications.

Responsibilities

• Lead department staff, including scheduling and training.
• Teach aquatics-based merit badges and lessons to groups of 2–24 youth.
• Submit advancement paperwork to supervisor promptly.
• Assist with setup, maintenance, and teardown of program areas.
• Provide First Aid as needed.
• Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected work area.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by SBR leadership.
• Abide by policies and procedures in staff handbook.

Position Overview

Provide high quality aquatics-based opportunities for all guests while fostering an environment of fun and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead department staff, including admin items such as scheduling and training
• Teach aquatics-based merit badges and lessons; presenting to group sizes of 2-24 youth
• Turn in advancement paperwork to supervisor in a timely manner
• Assist with the set-up, maintenance, and take down of program areas
• Provide First Aid as needed
• Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions

• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
• Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership

• Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18+
• Current lifeguard certification (Red Cross etc.) - provided
• Required 1+ yr. leading teams, prefer 1+ Summit employment
• Preferred: Previous training experience
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
• Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication

Physical & Practical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, swim, and paddle up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
• Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
