Job summary

Summitbsa is seeking a dedicated canopy tour guide to provide safe, fun, and educational experiences at our climbing facilities in Glen Jean, WV. You will supervise and instruct participants in climbing and rappelling activities, while upholding Scout Oath and Law during interactions.

This role includes gear familiarization, staff training participation, and ongoing development throughout the season. Housing, a Summit Staff Uniform, and a predictable work schedule are provided.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Able to complete Guide Training and assessment.
  • Experience guiding or managing others preferred.
  • Body weight 50–250 lbs per manufacturer requirements.
  • Willing to join Scouting America and submit to background screening.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line supervision and instructions of climbing and rappelling activities.
  • Become familiar with the proper gear supplied prior to the camping season.
  • Familiarize with all information related to the climbing facilities.
  • Participate in staff training during the training period.
  • Continuing on-the-job training throughout the season.
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership.
  • Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook.

Position Overview

Responsible for providing a safe, fun, educational and engaging canopy tour/climbing experience.

  • Become thoroughly familiar with all information related to the climbing and rappelling facilities
  • Participate in the specialized program training during the staff training period.
  • Continuing on-the-job training throughout the season
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
  • Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership
  • Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook
Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 18+
  • Must be able to complete Guide Training and assessment (provided)
  • Preferred: Experience guiding/facilitating and managing others
  • Body weight between 50-250 as per the manufacture's requirement for participation
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
Physical & Practical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and hike up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds
  • Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
  • Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
