Job description

The head lifeguard position is a responsible role that requires either Red Cross or other appropriate certification in lifeguard safety techniques in a public recreation facility. The head lifeguard will be responsible for ensuring and maintaining public safety and health in facilities such as swimming pools.

This is a temporary position that includes the following responsibilities:

1. Supervise pool staff, including lifeguards and attendants.
2. Maintain daily activity log sheets, including daily attendance logs.
3. Prepare time and attendance reports for all pool staff.
4. Perform light bookkeeping and accounting work, such as tabulating daily attendance receipts and maintaining employee sign-in and sign-out sheets.
5. Make daily bank deposits.
6. Be assigned other duties as needed, which may change according to the needs of the County.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED).
2. Three (3) years of experience as a certified Lifeguard.
3. Red Cross or other appropriate certification as a Lifeguard.
4. Experience in a public recreation facility setting, including log-keeping, regulations, and operations to ensure general safety and health.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

1. Proof of a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.
2. Valid Red Cross or other appropriate agency certification as a Lifeguard.
3. Ability to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier.
4. Ability to use pool cleaning equipment.
5. Bilingual (Spanish and English) with the ability to converse fluently in both languages.

Knowledge of operational equipment associated with a public recreation facility is required. Employees may be required to utilize personal automobiles for office-related business, attend training meetings, and work extra hours as necessary. Regular attendance is a must, and the ability to work well with others is essential.
