Overview

About the Facility:

NorthStar Golf Club is a private 18-hole facility located in Sunbury, Ohio and roughly a half hour from downtown Columbus, Ohio. The club was founded in 2007.

The golf course is a John Cook designed layout that measures 7,516 from the further set of tees. In all, the layout features 6 sets of tees to offer max playability for players of all skill levels. Cook designed the course to wind through 351.3 acres of extensive woodlands and incorporates 3 creeks and 21 ponds throughout. The course has hosted the Ohio Public Amateur Championship, U.S. Amateur Qualifier and currently hosts the Division III State High School Championships.

NorthStar's clubhouse was renovated and expanded in 2025 and features five different dining and banquet spaces. Each provide a comfortable and elegant ambiance as well as spectacular views of the golf course and surrounding landscape. Additional amenities include a pool complex that features a zero-entry pool with two lap lanes. Off the pool is a racquet complex with two tennis courts and pickleball. The club has a full practice facility.

Hosting approximately 40,000 rounds of golf annually including 39 member events and tournaments, the club boasts an active membership of 390 golf members out of a total membership of 600. There are active men's and ladies' leagues along with a wide range of junior programming that provides opportunities for the whole family to enjoy. The facility has 75 golf cars and enjoys a golfing season of March through November.

Position Description:

The Head Golf Professional serves as the leader and director of all golf functions. The Professional is responsible for creating and implementing operating procedures for the golf staff to assure quality services to our members and guests. He/She will need to have a visible presence and will be an ambassador for the club and will create a friendly atmosphere for the staff, members and guests. The Professional will work closely with other department heads to help ensure member satisfaction throughout the club. The Professional will directly manage all golf operations staff.

Experience Required

• PGA Class A member in good standing.
• Three or more years as a 1st Assistant or two or more years Head Professional experience.
• Experience within private facilities.
• Established record of providing superior customer service and staff training and development.
• Proven financial and budget acumen including experience managing budgets, analyzing results, maintaining costs, and meeting reporting deadlines.

Essential Responsibilities

Key Areas of Responsibility Include:

• Recruits, mentors and trains assistant golf professionals and cart attendants, including setting performance standards, scheduling, and coordinating payroll records.
• Fosters a staff culture that ensures a high level of member and guest service at all times.
• Oversees a golf shop that features a range of merchandise and services reflective of member needs.
• Administers the golf cart fleet maintenance program.
• Oversees the member golf club storage program.
• Responsible for all member billings related to the golf shop and golf activities.
• Develops and directs all club golf activities. This includes planning and promoting golfing events, teaching clinics, and the game itself.
• Enforces all club rules and policies that govern the use of the course, golf carts, practice facilities and golf-related facilities.
• Provides age and skill-appropriate instruction to players.
• Makes time to play golf with the members regardless of their skill level.
• Serves as the representative of the club's golf program to the wider community, including representing the club in area professional events, such as local section play, and state or national events.
• Consults with the general manager on golf course and practice facility operation, maintenance and rules.
• Cooperates with the grounds superintendent on maintenance issues that affect the playability of the golf course.
• Innovate, organize and promote member tournaments and events along with engaging passion to provide a top-quality experience and to ensure increased participation and success.
• Willingness to assist with cart attendant responsibilities during off-months.
