Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise a custodial staff team and perform cleaning duties (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, windows, waste removal).
  • Provide floor care including shampooing carpets, carpet extraction, and using automatic scrubbers.
  • Ensure facilities are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  • Serve on on-call rotation to support students after hours; respond to emergencies and assist with events.
  • Overtime may be required with little or no notice; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct quality control inspections and document results; manage staff performance through 1:1s, team meetings, and annual evaluations.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Ability to communicate and understand verbal and writteninstructions in English.
  • Experience in working in any of the following: custodial,hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production, orfacilities maintenance.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items weighing up to 30lbs. unassisted and 50 pounds assisted.
  • Walk 3-5 miles daily and access all areas of the building in atimely manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supervising staff members.
  • Experience providing professional cleaning methods andtechniques, including measuring and mixing cleaning chemicals.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Bilingual, English & Spanish.
  • Ability to provide excellent communication and interpersonalskills.
Job Description

The Head Custodian position provides leadership, coordination, andsupervision of custodial operations at Texas State HousingFacilities to ensure a clean and safe environment. The headcustodian supervises full-time staff that service studentresidential facilities.

Job Duties
Custodial Services
  • Directly supervise a custodial staff team and perform variouscleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting,cleaning windows, and removing trash.
  • Provide floor care, including shampooing carpets, carpetextraction, using automatic scrubbers, and stripping and finishingfloors.
  • Ensure that assigned facilities are maintained in a clean andsafe condition
On-Call & Emergency Management
  • Serve as a member of the departmental on-call rotation toprovide support to students after hours.
  • Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and othercustodial emergencies. Fill in as required for other crew membersand substitute for absent co-workers as needed. Perform set-ups andbreakdowns for special events.
  • Mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advancenotice.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Administration
  • Performs quality control inspections and documentation.
  • Manage staff performance through 1:1s, team meetings, andannual evaluations.
  • Process and review time reports, inspection reports, absencedocumentation.
