Job summary

Texas State University in San Marcos, TX is seeking an Accountant IV to oversee state appropriations, cash, and investment accounting, and to coordinate daily payment processing and year-end reporting for the AFR.   • Experience with problem solving and analytical writing.
  • Ability to interpret existing and new federal, state, and local regulations and policies to ensure continued accounting and reporting compliance

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the institution's revenue appropriations and serve as the institutional liaison with the State Comptroller's Office on accounting matters
  • Review monthly reconciliations between the university's general ledger system and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS)
  • Oversee bank reconciliations and investment accounting
  • Participate in the monthly and year-end closing processes by preparing financial statements and reviewing the work of others
  • Develop, monitor, and report key financial ratios and metrics
  • Interpret and implement federal, state, system, and university policies and regulations
  • Design and document internal control procedures
  • Research and resolve financial reporting issues
  • Provide necessary training and technical assistance to staff
  • Assist with hiring decisions and conduct annual staff performance evaluations
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Job Description:

Performs advanced, professional accounting functions that supportthe integrity of the university's financial reporting andaccounting operations. Responsible for state appropriations, cashand investment accounting activities, including oversight of dailypayment processing, reconciliation of financial data between theuniversity's general ledger and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), and participation in year-end financial reportingfor the Annual Financial Report (AFR). Ensures compliance withgovernmental GAAP, State of Texas requirements, and otherapplicable accounting standards and regulations.
