EY is seeking an experienced software/AI engineer to build long-running agents that operate across complex enterprise workflows. You will shape agent architectures, manage execution loops, and ensure safety and steerability in production environments.

The role sits at the intersection of applied AI, distributed systems, and product engineering, requiring collaboration with Challenger teams to deliver valuable, scalable services with observable behavior and robust failure handling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• 7-9 years of software or applied machine-learning engineering experience.
• Hands‑on evidence of shipping large-language-model applications or complex model‑driven workflows.
• Strong capability in Python, TypeScript, or production service languages.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Knowledge of asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and recovery.
• Experience implementing access boundaries and scoped authority.
• Evidence of improving live systems through traces, metrics, logs, and incidents.
• This role requires up to 50% travel and hybrid office capability.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and design agent architectures with measured complexity.
• Build dependable tools and interfaces with clear contracts and error handling.
• Engineer agent behavior including planning, routing, delegation, and handoffs.
• Create durable context with instructions, user state, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities and approved containment.
• Evaluate complete trajectories using tests that verify tasks and recoveries.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state and safe retries.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end tracing and replay for diagnostics.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points to resume work safely.
• Build shared capability by partnering across teams and publishing reusable patterns.
