Job summary

Sarasota Housing is seeking an HCV Specialist to support the management of the HCV program under direct supervision. The role handles a caseload, including reexaminations, rent computations, and establishing strong landlord and participant relations.

The position requires a Housing Choice Specialist Certification within 6 months, and 1–2 years in HCV or related fields. A valid Florida driver’s license and HUD-related knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Valid Florida driver’s license
• Ability to pass background checks

Responsibilities

• Schedule interviews and obtain income verifications
• Compute rents and utility allowances, notify residents of rent changes
• Perform initial, annual, and interim re-certifications in a timely manner
• Explain policies and regulations to owners
• Counsel participant families and refer to social services
• Ensure vouchers are issued timely and managed after issuance
• Assist voucher holders in finding acceptable units
• Process moves and transfers per HUD regulations
• Process termination of assistance per policies
• Provide information to participants of social services agencies
• Maintain program statistics such as rent reasonableness, fair market rents, payment standards, utility allowances, income limits
• Provide technical assistance and training to staff
• Assist with digital conversion of clients’ files
• Process unreported income and repayment agreements
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
• Work is sedentary but may require standing, with exposure to noise and verbal abuse
