Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Lab Pack Chemist for Raleigh, NC, with field-based responsibilities and occasional travel. The role focuses on careful packaging and repackaging of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals in customer facilities, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Entry-level chemistry or life sciences graduates are encouraged to apply. The position offers comprehensive training, on-site supervision, and travel within the region, with per diem during overnight trips.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Life Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
• Laboratory exposure and experience working around hazardous chemicals.
• Strong understanding of chemical properties and reactivity, including knowledge of which substances may react with others.
• Working knowledge of hazardous waste handling and chemical safety practices.
• Ability to follow and apply DOT regulations related to the packaging, labeling, and transportation of hazardous materials.
• Comfort working in environments where hazardous chemicals and waste are present.
• Attention to detail when inventorying, segregating, and documenting chemicals.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel overnight 1-2 days per week as part of the job.

Responsibilities

• Inventory, identify, and document hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals at customer sites with high accuracy.
• Segregate chemicals based on compatibility and regulatory requirements to ensure safe handling and transport.
• Package and repackage chemicals and hazardous waste into appropriate containers for transportation and disposal.
• Follow all applicable DOT regulations and company procedures when handling, packaging, and labeling chemicals and waste.
• Provide on-site supervision for routine customer lab pack projects, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Perform paper pack services, including preparing documentation and manifests for chemical and waste shipments.
• Support customer pre-pack services by guiding clients on proper segregation, labeling, and preparation of materials.
• Work collaboratively in teams to complete daily assignments at local and regional customer locations.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety and environmental compliance in all tasks and work environments.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and customer contacts regarding project status, requirements, and any issues.
• Use company-provided vehicles and equipment responsibly and maintain a clean and organized work area in the warehouse and at customer sites.
