Job summary

Republic Services in Detroit seeks a Chemical Processing Operator I to manage hazardous and non-hazardous materials in compliance with safety and environmental regulations. You will collaborate with TSDF technicians in warehouses, plants, and outdoor environments to ensure safe handling and packaging.

The role supports shipping, waste tracking, and QA/QC activities, with mentoring duties for new hires and ongoing safety training to maintain regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations preferred.
• Ability to wear and safely use PPE, including air-purifying respirators.
• Demonstrated accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize, stay focused, and handle multiple responsibilities.
• Pass 40-hour HAZWOPER Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Handle, classify, segregate, label, and package hazardous and non-hazardous materials per regulations.
• Segregate chemicals by compatibility and DOT Hazard class.
• Consolidate hazardous materials/waste safely (bulking, repackaging).
• Prepare shipping documents and coordinate transportation of chemicals and hazardous waste.
• Mentor new hires and provide training on SOPs.
